Samuel Martinich, Grizzly Corps Fellow

Samuel Martinich (he/him) is a GrizzlyCorps Fellow working through his 2024-25
service term with the BCRCD. Though originally from Missoula Montana, he spent a few
years of his early adult life walking and hitching rides across North America. This
expanded his love for the backcountry and finding seldom seen places in hard-to-reach
spaces. Led by that love of travel through remote areas, he landed in a service term
with the Texas Conservation Corps on a crew trained specifically in disaster response
and trail work, and from there kindled the inspiration to hike the Continental Divide Trail;
the longest and most rugged of America’s ‘Triple Crown’ long distance trails. While on
trail, he learned about Central Wyoming College’s Alpine Science Institute where he
enrolled following completion of the long-hike. In 2024, he graduated from there with an
AA in Outdoor Education, an AS in Expedition Science, and a certificate in GIS. His
work with the BCRCD is focused around capacity building and field projects alike, with
no end to learning about the behind-the-scenes action of projects in the RCD. When not
on the clock, Samuel keeps himself busy with a variety of adventure sports, dreaming
up new craft projects, and sometimes working on ones he already started!
