Storrie Meadows

A serene landscape with a stream, wooden fence, and trees under a clear blue sky.

In 2000, the Storrie fire burned 27,000 acres within the Lassen National Forest, resulting in alterations to stream conditions and wildlife habitat. After conducting an initial meadow condition assessment of 90 meadows, Colby Creek was identified as one of the top priorities because of its ecological attributes, degraded state, and potential for restoration. To restore the meadow’s function and reconnect the streams to their historic floodplains four major actions were implemented. These actions include 1) the construction of wood based structures (beave dam analogs, post-assisted log structures), 2) earthen channel fill, 3) the removal of encroaching conifers, and 4) road/culvert improvements.
