Willow Creek Meadow
Willow Creek Meadow (WCM) is located in Almanor Ranger District -Lassen National Forest. The watershed, located at the base of Humbug Summit, was heavily forested prior to the Dixie Fire of 2021 which burned much of the watershed at high severity. The meadow has also been heavily impacted by historic logging, grazing, and the routing of Humbug Road which bisects the meadow.
The 2019 Storrie Meadow Restoration Prioritization Report to Lassen National Forest and National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (Point Blue Conservation Science) conducted initial assessments of 90 meadows within the Storrie Fire footprint nexus. The Willow Creek Meadows as analyzed in Campos et al. 2019 (WC 1, WC 2, and Grizzly 324) each were found to have two or three stressors; all three meadows had impacted channel morphology. All three meadows ranked as sensitive in the climate sensitivity analysis. (Vernon, Campos, Burnett 2019).
Management goals focus on the restoration of the wet meadow complex with priorities of water table and wet meadow-riparian vegetation restoration and the stabilization of stream channels for habitat diversity.
